S.D. Skye's Hell or High Water 365-Day Blogathon Day 89 -- ePub File Conversion Tool

I am so excited!

After about an hour of research this morning, I lucked up on a tool that I didn't know about...that converts .DOCX files to .ePub Files.

Now, there ways to get this done. Some authors just upload their books on Smashwords and download the ePub file. If you upload your book in Barnes and Noble or Kobo, I believe it converts your file to a Word document as well. Some authors also use the Scrivener ePub feature.

I've used all of these at one time but when I try to get the files through lightning source, they never pass. And with Smashwords, if you don't have the expertise to do the formatting, then your book will get kicked back for a gazillion formatting issues. It's just a pain in the butt.

This is the main reason my books weren't available on iBooks. The struggle was real and I just didn't have the patience to deal with it or the money to pay someone $100 per file to get it in the right format. When I think about 7 books, that's a lot of money for some formatting.

Well, the frustration is GONE now.

Let me introduce you to -- Jutoh

This is the interface.  It can be used in Windows, Mac, or Linux. And you only have to purchase 1 license and can use it on any computer you own. For example, I downloaded this on Windows because I'm working in my office. But when it's time to upload books on iBooks and I have to use my Mac, I will download the Mac version and use the same license number--they allow you to do that.

For $39, you can license this software that will convert your books to .Mobi for Kindle, ePub and other digital file formats--with the click of a few buttons.

Even more wonderful -- it will check your book for errors like improper tab stops , font size, page and paragraph breaks (and a host of other issues that cause errors)--and it will automatically correct them for you with just the click of a couple of buttons.

Yes. You read that correctly.

Even better -- I learned to use the program in a matter of 30 minutes and have now converted all of my JJ books to ePub...which I can now upload on iBooks (well, when my Kindle Select requirement ends). It only took me about 10-15 to format each book and save it.

What drove me to do this today was getting my books on Bublish. I decided to try it out with the J.J. books but Bublish only accepts ePub or you have to do rectal gymnastics to input your file and create an ePub in the program.

I'll share my Bublish experience in a later post but JUTOH is a life saver for indie authors who don't want to spend a fortune on formatting. And I imagine a lot of people charging you $100 a pop to edit are probably using this program or ones like it to do the work.

You're welcome!! Now that I've saved you a gazillion dollars, go buy one of my books. :)

    1. This is one I highly recommend. It is truly a godsend for the cheap/broke indie author that can't afford to hire people to do formatting.
