Wednesday Update -- NaNoWriMo
But one thing always on my mind about this time of the year is NaNoWriMo.
What is NaNoWriMo?
Do you have a book you've been dying to finish or start? NaNoWriMo offers you the chance to engage in this wonderful community of people helping to push you along until the end.
Basically, you write a novel-length manuscript--50,000 words--in the 30 days of November. I've PARTICIPATED every year, although I have not FINISHED every year. My work schedule usually gets crazy or something happens and I get behind on word count. But I have finished twice since 2009 when I first started writing. But I've also used this month to finish existing manuscripts or begin manuscripts that I've finished later.
I'm going to enter this year! I have 6 books in the queue and I hope to finish one-to-two of the short ones and then knock out the long ones.
How did I finish when I finished?
1. I had an outline and just wrote to the outline every day. A general outline not a full-blown outline.
2. Wrote at the same time everyday and usually doubled up writing during the weekend to make up for the writing I wasn't going to do during the week.
3. Pure determination -- or I was trying to meet a deadline. I'm highly deadline driven. Give me a deadline and I'll make sure I never miss it--no matter what.
Are you going to NaNo this year?
