S.D. Skye's Hell or High Water 365 Day Blogathon Day 170 -- Writing Spree

Anything Sunday --And Now We Write Some More

After six years in the industry this year and just finishing my last book, I've come to a conclusion about my career. There is only ONE thing that I can control in terms of writing results-- and that is the books I write and how much time I take to learn and apply the craft.

That's it.

Everything else is really a crapshoot. You can put a lot of effort into marketing and other things but the energy you put in may not equal what you get out of it. If you put your energy into writing a book, as long as you finish, you will get a book. I like those odds.

Rather than worry about things outside of my control, I've chosen to shift my focus to the things that I can ABSOLUTELY control. So, I'm taking a day to bask in the glory of finishing my 9th book (not too shabby in six years). And now that I've completed my one major deadline-driven obligation--the writing spree begins.

In between drafts of the romance I wrote for a book set I'm participating in with 13 other authors, I wrote outlines for my next five books.

I don't know about you, but when I get into a writing groove, it's much better when I can write straight through rather than get in it...and get out of it...then have to find my way back in it. Even now, it is taking me a few days to get my head back in the game. Although to be fair, I did just finish a few very intense weeks of not only editing my own work, but editing for another author. So, I actually deserve a break.

So I plan to kick up quite a bit of dust next year. Putting everything aside and focusing on attending some writing conferences, learning, writing and publishing. That's it. If I get all these done, I'll end the year at 14 books. Not bad for 7 years.

I plan to finish two novellas in December, one during my week off for the Christmas holiday. One in January. And then the rest of the year will be focused on wrapping up the J.J. McCall spy thrillers.

Can she do it? Of course, she can. It's going to take a lot of work and determination but I've got that in spaces. 2016 will be a good year. Stay tuned!
