S.D. Skye's Hell or High Water 365-Day Blogathon Day 142 -- Genre-Hopping Writers

Anything Sunday -- Genre-hopping Writer...

I've been working my patootie off the past few weeks wrapping up a book in another genre and I've begun to think about my writing "strategy."  I've hopped through three genres writing anything and everything I've wanted to write. I started out in my true comfort zone "romance/romantic comedy" moved to "young adult" and then finally wrapped up my genre-hopping tour with spy thrillers--which, based on my career, who could blame me?

If I had to do it all again, I'd probably have stuck with one genre...for a lot longer. Maybe ten books in I would've switched. But I would've solidified my audience in romance first before moving off to other things.

Also, if I published series, I would at least publish three at a time. Not one at a time. This would mean having a lot of patience and allowing myself to build up my stable of books out of the public eye.

I've seen a lot of advice and listened to a lot of YouTube videos on publishing lately, and this is one consistent message.

The great thing about writing is that as long as you don't quit, you can start your career over anytime you get ready. Just employ a new strategy and follow it.

That's what I'm doing. So, there will be more S.D. Skye but the releases will be more strategic in the future. Down with the willy nilly.
